Chapter Five

Shannon gazed down at the images on her desk.

She’d found it hard to find spare time in between working on her other projects, reporting to Catherine, and making sure that her parents were alright, but somehow, the young woman found herself up at all hours of the night working on the design that Ryan Williams had asked for.

To say the least, she was extremely conflicted about the entire affair.

On the one hand, she wanted to crumple the papers and toss them in the trash. The man had played her. All that bullshit about begging her and needing her to bring his vision to life…and after all that, he’d kissed her.

Kissed her.

He’d kissed her.

Shannon’s stomach tightened as she shivered in reminiscence. Of course, she hadn’t done much to stop him. She could have shoved him away, ran herself, and kicked him in the nutsack for the love of God. Instead, she’d merely let him…let him use his mouth to effectively rob her of her senses until she was weak in the knees and all but begging him for more.

But the worst part of the entire experience was that she’d spend the entire following week replaying the moment in her mind. When he’d slid from the car, drawn her close…when he’d nibbled at her lower lip in a place she hadn’t even known was sensitive and she’d felt the press of his very obvious arousal against her lower belly.

She should have bolted like her life depended on it.

If anything, she should have called the man and told him to shove his plans up his ass. How dare he touch her like that?

How dare he stop?

Shannon hadn’t called him. She hadn’t breathed a word to the businessman since they’d parted ways in the parking garage the previous week. Instead, she’d thrown herself into his project with the intent of merely finishing the plans to be done with him. She’d charge him for the plans and he could bring in another architect to oversee the building. He’d clearly proven that he wasn’t trustworthy at all.

He was manipulative, conniving…he was goddamn gorgeous…

“What’s this, Shannon?” Her head jerked up as at Catherine’s voice at her shoulder and the dark-skinned woman just managed not to jump. Her boss moved around the office like a ninja; everyone except Monique was careful to make sure that they were actually working in the office. Ironically enough, no one except Monique found that very much of a hardship. They were all pretty devoted to their projects.

Monique was devoted to her money.

“This? Oh.” Shannon sat back down from where she’d been standing over her drawing table, struggling for the words to explain herself. She pushed a few strands of hair back from where they’d escaped the chignon at the base of her neck, chewing her lip for a moment before answering carefully. “This is…some preliminary work. For…Mr. Williams.” There was no lying to Catherine. She had eyes that could see right through you.
